Week 5 of Nutrition Expedition: Eye See You!

October 5-9, 2015

Eye See You!

Our "focus" was on our eyes this week in Nutrition Expedition! We studied what our eyes look like in a mirror, discussed the inner workings of our eyes and how they function (like a camera), tried some healthy foods that are beneficial to our eyes, and the older children watched a fun and informative video (see below)!

It's been awhile since I've brought the nibble trays in, so the children were super excited to see what they contained! They feasted on spinach and broccoli (full of lutein and zeaxanthin, which help slow the development of macular degeneration and cataracts), oranges and red bell peppers (full of Vitamin C, which reduces the risk of macular degeneration and cataracts), sweet potatoes and carrots (full of Vitamins A/C and carotenoids, which help reduce the risk of many eye diseases). If you wear glasses, don't be surprised if your child tells you that you must not eat enough carrots ;)
