Meet Your Avocado Farmer
This week in Nutrition Expedition, Farmer Kelli stopped by with a lesson on the art of avocado farming! Did you know that we can even grow them right here in Michigan? There are cold-hardy varieties that can be grown in a container and brought indoors during the winter months!
We looked at a series of pictures portraying the stages of growth of an avocado: from seed, to plant, to tree, to flower, to fruit-bearing. They were quite fascinated with this! The older children also watched a few videos, which you can view below. Finally, we checked out our avocado seeds that we started growing last week. No sprouting yet, but we're hoping to see some roots soon!
