Rainbow Carrots!
This week in
Nutrition Expedition, we tried rainbow carrots! We started out by reading the
book, The Carrot Seed, by
Ruth Krauss. It's a classic story about a little boy who plants a carrot seed.
His family doubts it will grow, but in the end, he proves them wrong! I passed
around the "mystery bag" with a carrot inside to see if they could
guess what it was. We sure have some smart children at Joyful Noise, as
everyone knew it was a carrot! I had a sneaky surprise, however: it was a
yellow carrot, which they had never seen before! We tried organic yellow,
purple, red, and orange carrots. They were a hit! A bit sweeter and crunchier
than your average carrot, they were delicious!
After they tried the carrots, we passed around nibble trays filled
with oranges, red pears, purple plums, red potatoes, yellow mangoes, and butter
beans. Yum!
The infants also enjoyed the story, and exploring the colorful
carrots! They were able to try the carrots after they were steamed, along with
potatoes and red pears! What a tasty adventure for them!
