Week 19 of Nutrition Expedition: Can You Guess What It Is? Hint: It's Round and Has a Peel!

January 30 - February 3, 2017

Can You Guess What It Is? Oranges!

What is a great fruit to eat when you're not "peeling" very well? That's right, oranges! The children had to use their super sniffers to figure out this month's topic of discussion in the "Mystery Bag". The fragrance was quite a-peeling :)

I brought 3 varieties of oranges:  a Cara Cara Orange (a type of navel orange with a pinkish-red flesh, seedless, and sweeter/less acidic than a traditional navel), a Blood Orange (an orange with a reddish/purple flesh, sweet and tangy, very unique) and a California Navel orange (gets its name from the belly-button-like protrusion at its stem which is actually an undeveloped twin orange, sweet, easy-to-peel, and seedless). They were all delicious, and the children thoroughly enjoyed every last bite!

Super Sleuth Questions

1. What was your favorite type of orange that you tried in Nutrition Expedition?

2. What is in oranges that make you feel better when you are sick? (answer:  vitamin C)
