Can You Guess What It Is? Apples!
Welcome back to the Nutrition Expedition blog! The children were so excited for the kick-off of our "Specials" classes for the new school year :) If you are new to the blog, Nutrition Expedition is a weekly class in which your child will learn all about nutritious foods, making healthy choices, and exercise! For this year, our theme will be "Down on the Farm"! Each month, our focus will be on a different fruit or vegetable. We'll discover how and where it grows, prepare a dish with it, learn all about it's health benefits, and meet the "farmer" (yours truly ;))!
For the month of September, we'll be studying the apple! This week, I brought in the mystery bag (which contained a red delicious apple), and told them the story, "The Little Red House With No Doors and No Windows". If you are not familiar with this classic tale, check it out below:
We were so surprised to find a star shape inside the apple! We talked all about the parts of the apple and even enjoyed an apple for snack. Next week, we'll explore apple farms and the process involved in growing apples. Stay tuned!
