Week 27 of Nutrition Expedition: St. Patrick's Day Yoga

March 27-31, 2017

St. Patrick's Day Yoga

To close out our month of avocados, I thought it appropriate to practice yoga relating to something green. Why not St. Patrick's Day?!

Here are some fun poses we worked on in honor of St. Patrick's Day and the color green, along with cute photos of the kids perfecting their skill!

The Blarney Stone (Child's Pose)

 Celtic Harp (Triangle Pose)

 Four Leaf Clover (Star Pose)

 Horseshoe (Horse Pose)

Irish Flag (Mountain Pose, wave arms in air)

 Irish Jig (Dancer's Pose)

Leprechaun (Tree Pose, kick leg out)

Pot of Gold (Half Boat Pose)

 Rainbow (Rainbow Pose)

 Shamrock (Three-Legged Dog Pose)

Super Sleuth Questions

1. What kind of yoga did you do this week? (answer:  St. Patrick's Day or leprechaun yoga)

2. What was your favorite pose? Was it easy or difficult?

Week 25 of Nutrition Expedition: Meet Your Avocado Farmer

March 13-17, 2017

Meet Your Avocado Farmer

This week in Nutrition Expedition, Farmer Kelli stopped by with a lesson on the art of avocado farming! Did you know that we can even grow them right here in Michigan? There are cold-hardy varieties that can be grown in a container and brought indoors during the winter months!

We looked at a series of pictures portraying the stages of growth of an avocado:  from seed, to plant, to tree, to flower, to fruit-bearing. They were quite fascinated with this! The older children also watched a few videos, which you can view below. Finally, we checked out our avocado seeds that we started growing last week. No sprouting yet, but we're hoping to see some roots soon!
