Week 22 of Nutrition Expedition: Super Sandwich Day!

Super Sandwich Day!

We ate like superheroes in Nutrition Expedition this week! First, we practiced some breathing exercises and meditations from our new book, Yoga for Children:  200+ Poses, Breathing Exercises, and Meditations for Healthier, Happier, More Resilient Children, by Lisa Flynn. They especially loved doing partner meditation, where they sat back to back and practiced deep breathing together (see photos below)! After we had opened our minds and relaxed our bodies, the children were ready to take a look at the "Super Sandwich Day" menu, and make their selections:


They had so much fun pretending they were in a restaurant! After they had made their choices, I explained that I would bring their menus down to the kitchen and prepare their plates with the items they had chosen for their sandwiches. At lunch, the plates were ready, and the children were able to build their very own super sandwich! Yum! This would be a great activity to try for dinner at home, with sandwiches or pizza, the possibilities are endless! It really empowers the children to make their own healthy choices :)

The infants enjoyed playing with a large bowl of pretend fruits and veggies! We played "banana phone", and they couldn't resist having a "taste" of the items I brought :)

I will be off on vacation next week, so there will be no blog post. However, I am leaving the classrooms with a fun Chinese New Year yoga routine! Be sure to ask your child about it! See you in March!
